Tech Fest Preview: Rocking and Rolling with Xaar

The FuturePrint Tech Fest is a celebration of print technology taking place on the 29th-30th June 2021, where experts will provide updates on new technological developments, innovations and stories of how the print technology community is bringing to life new ideas that create new possibilities. We catch up with Renzo Trip, Principal Engineer at Xaar, to discuss what attendees can expect from his presentation, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll: Direct-to-Shape Inkjet Applications’.

What will Xaar be speaking about?

Does a printhead still work when you turn it up-side-down? Can you use a printhead to paint a wall? Or car? More generally, is it possible to mount a printhead on a robotic arm and use it to print onto any object? It is these questions that we aim to answer by utilising Xaar’s TF Technology.

What can event attendees expect from the session? 

A series of simplified motions is used to demonstrate and explain how changes in orientation and acceleration affect the print performance. Recordings of tests with a robotic arm provide a visual guidance for the data recorded simultaneously.

Why is this an important topic? 

We have seen an increasing interest from various markets that consider inkjet as an alternative for spray painting and coating applications. A robust and reliable printhead is a first step in making digital inkjet a suitable alternative. An alternative that is less labour-intensive, more cost effective and more environmentally friendly.
