Customer Success Story: Proof Positive with CGS Oris and Grabalfa

At FuturePrint Tech: Packaging and Labels, which took place in Valencia, Spain, on the 28th and 29th of February, FuturePrint spoke to Alberto Cabello Morales from Grabalfa about the company’s experience using Real Substrate Proof, a fully colour-accurate digital proofing system for packaging from CGS Oris.

Established in 1973 by the Capuz family, Grabalfa boasts 50 years of expertise, enabling the company to become the leading provider of pre-printing services in the packaging industry. In 2021, a new management team took over, ushering in a phase of growth and transformation that could be described as Grabalfa 2.0. Embracing a fresh perspective, the primary goal is to leverage the comprehensive experience gained over the years to add value to each stage of the graphics chain.

Alberto Cabello Morales of Grabalfa and Heiner Muller of CGS Oris spoke to FuturePrint about their partnership in Valencia

The Challenge

The session, entitled ‘How Real Substrate Proof Became A Game-Changer For A Packaging Pre-Press Company’, delved into the unique challenges of proofing and prototyping for packaging. The wide variety of substrates each present a different set of obstacles, and in many situations a conventional paper proof holds limited relevance. The right proofing system for Grabalfa needed to be one that can cope with the substrate range as well as accurately reproducing processes such as white ink and spot colours.

The Solution

Alberto outlined what led them to Real Substrate Proof from CGS Oris, and why it’s the right fit for their proofing requirements. Real Substrate Proof is a complete software, printer, and ink solution formulated for producing contract proofs using a wide range of flexible and rigid substrates for packaging. Extensive testing on various materials has been conducted, and the results have been impressive. Alberto will explain why, compared with normal paper proofs, these proofs offer a more realistic, true to life idea of the final product.

The Impact

Grabalfa’s client base goes beyond packaging converters and extends to design houses and large international brand owners. In this session, Alberto explained how the combination of the company’s longstanding expertise and Real Substrate Proof from CGS Oris is a winning formula, allowing Grabalfa to showcase commercially viable options with realism even down to substrates and brand colours, and helping customers sharpen product marketing strategies and minimise approval processes.
