Leaders Summit: Is Sustainability Even More important Now?

Back in 2012, Frazer and I ran the first EcoPrint Show in a converted railway station in Berlin. The focus was sustainability, and at the time we believed that it would become the most important defining factor for business and life.

Fast forward nearly 10 years and the topic of sustainability has fallen and seemingly risen again as a defining trend for innovation, perhaps as a result of necessity. People such as Greta Thunberg are so committed to it, surely the next generation of leaders will give it a headline focus for the future health and wellbeing of the planet and the print sector?! And not just lip service that seemed to be the case 10 years ago.

So, at the FuturePrint Leaders Summit, we host a live panel discussion on Sustainability to ask whether it is an essential aspect of a business as opposed to just a ‘nice to have’? We will discuss whether the COVID crisis halted sustainability or led to it rising again as a key issue and a defining trend for the future.

There is some research that suggests that sustainability is higher on the agenda now and not just in the Gen Z category.

According to Mckinsey & Co, the pandemic has given consumers more time to think about sustainability due to slowing down during lockdown and focusing on their health (Nazir, 2020).

A Mckinsey & Company survey found that consumers became more engaged in sustainability topics during Covid-19, with 88 per cent of respondents believing that more attention should be paid to reducing pollution. Consumers were found to start changing their behaviours during lockdown with 60% going out of their way to recycle and purchase products in environmentally friendly packaging.

If you are interested in sustainability and its role in the print technology, print production and packaging sectors, join me, Nova Abbott, Graham Kennedy, Brendan Perring, Anthony Carignano, and Steve Lister for what will be an honest and lively discussion.
