Summit Partner Spotlight: Industrial Inkjet Ltd
The second FuturePrint Virtual Summit will be taking place from October 12th to October 16th. Industrial Inkjet Ltd is a FuturePrint Virtual Summit Content Partner, and we caught up with the team to discuss inkjet for security printing, their innovations in the space, and why it will be valuable content for summit attendees.
Why has your business made the decision to participate in the second FuturePrint Virtual Summit?
One of our staff attended the first Summit and gave a very positive report. Given the current virus situation, this summit may be the highlight of the 2020 show season.
Who will be representing you at the FuturePrint Virtual Summit and what is their responsibility and experience?
John Corrall. Managing Director, who has lots and lots of inkjet experience!
Can you provide a brief overview of your chosen topic and why it will be of interest and relevance to Summit attendees?
In the inkjet world, Security printing gets little air-time compared, for example, to labels or packaging, but Security is all about variable data and new techniques to prevent copying. It is actually an ideal market for inkjet.
How do you see the market developing in the next six months, and what will be your focus?
IIJ has been lucky in that (so far) the virus has had little effect on our business. If anything we have had more new customers approaching us with new application ideas. Perhaps lockdown time has been thinking time for many people! Over the next 6 months we expect to be working on many of these new projects, but there is no doubt that the current travel restrictions will cause delays.
Tell us more about the product and the specific market it serves.
IIJ makes a range of inkjet print engines aimed at security markets. This varies from small automatic colour units (CMYK + “covert” colour inks) used for passport or ID card printing, to wide, high speed units used for printing government documents.
What is unique about this product? How will it make a difference for customers?
Security print is – as the name suggests – always about preventing fraudulent behaviour, i.e. preventing fakes or copying. As soon as one technology becomes widespread then someone will work out how to copy it. So the security market is about using “layers” of different security and it is about constantly developing new security features in the print. At IIJ we fully recognise this need and we work constantly to develop new products and new printing technology suitable for this market.
