Software & Serendipity: IPIA EXPO, Awards & Gala Dinner

The IPIA succeeded in running a great event on Dec 2 at the Crowne Plaza in Stratford Upon Avon.

In my view, the association, which we are proud to collaborate with, have been the stand out association for the print industry in the UK and maybe also Europe. And the fact this event worked so well underlines this. If they hadn't the respect and traction in the market then quite simply the event would not have worked so well, or even run at all with the latest version of COVID working its way around the globe, taunting event managers left right and centre.

First off the venue was perfect and plenty big enough to cater for 22 exhibitors, featuring a networking lunch and what felt like 200 or so people from across the country. From what I understand, a number of them came to see what the IPIA was all about with a view to joining next year. They should join in my view.

In my opinion, 2021 has been a year where software has risen up the agenda across the industry. It seems to be the time where it's given at least equal focus to machinery. And this was true too of this event.

It was great to finally meet in person Kelvin Bell at V-Press who were showcasing some innovative software with a mobile phone to label print production. I received a beer literally with my name on it which was nice :)

Right next door, Zaikio's Karl Ciz was showcasing how this innovative procurement system can revolutionise the procurement of Print. We reported last week their latest partnership with Tharstern and Premier. Read more about this here. Basically, we imagine this innovative product will continue to grow quickly in its importance across the Print spectrum, so watch this space.

Lastly, FuturePrint partner Tharstern were also present with their innovative MIS and showcasing their new web-based UI which allows users to create estimates, RFQs and orders in any location, on any device. Companies can also create separate log-in details for their own clients, giving them the power to create their own quotes, place orders, and track deliveries.

Following the networking lunch, and a break, the evening event kicked off at 7 pm with a champagne reception and then a wonderful dinner featuring awards, stand up bingo and an inspiring speech from Mike Roberts the President of IPIA, and then a rocking live band. We also learned that Brendan Perring can dance as well. Albeit, I am sure, these kinds of moves are not something that should be attempted at home without the necessary H&S policy in place!

At this event, I was also reminded of how good events often lead to serendipity. You learn things, you meet new people and also reconnect with others. This cannot be done virtually. Without even trying very hard, enjoying yourself, you can develop new ideas and generate business. Although we at FuturePrint are most certainly committed to an omnichannel approach as we continue to build the community, there is no doubt that in-person events remain critical to a community and this event certainly reminded me of that.

Lastly, thanks to all at the IPIA for your hard work and hospitality, big congratulations on a great event, another successful year, and we look forward to working with you again in 2022 :)
