Probo to Partner with Durst at FESPA 2023

Innovation is at the core of Probo’s ethos. Probo is a pioneer in being able to adapt to the ever-changing industry and anticipate changes before they happen - it’s a true forerunner. Their product, Sign Again, aims to change the way waste within the signage industry is managed.

Probo has gifted the print industry ‘eternal life’ in the form of Sign Again. This is a revolutionary product is made of entirely used banners and the first sheet material of its kind, showcasing how it is possible to create a 100% circular print. Not only will this minimise the mountain of waste the industry generates, but it will also save on costs long-term. The goalposts have been shifting - the industry no longer has to purchase countless products, and now you can reuse and recycle current projects.

This move toward zero-waste circular products is a display of adapting to the future and working with the planet, rather than against it. Through Sign Again, print will remain affordable, available and accessible, as well as removing dependency on increasingly scarce resources.

The Problem

The print industry is facing new challenges and regulations over the next couple of years. Due to the new European legislation, around 30% of the product currently used within the advertising and print industry must be made out of recycled materials.

Globally to date, there are approximately 381 million tonnes of plastic waste annually - and this is set to double by 2034. With 50% being single-use and only 9% of global plastic being recycled, our planet is well on its way to plastic armageddon.

A commonly used material is PVC. PVC has been on the market for years and is often known for its durability, cost-effectiveness and quality, however, both its production of it and its waste management has devastating effects on the environment. There are many different types of plastics however, Greenpeace has warned us that “PVC is the most damaging plastic”.

The Process

This is where Sign Again comes in. Not only does Probo’s product effectively manage PVC waste, but it also repurposes it to prevent further PVC products from entering the market.

Sign Again is the very first 100% and closed loop recycled rigid material. Probo’s new product is a pioneer in PVC recycling. This revolutionary product is paving the way for other companies to take action against waste.

The process begins with the used banners arriving at the site, and then they are cut and processed into the regrind. After being ground down into strong, impact and cut-resistant, fire retardant and pliable banners, they are then dished out and ready to be printed on again and again and again…
