Circular Sustainability Scores Big at the European Championships

In a ground-breaking move for sustainable sports events, Niggemeyer Pro Imaging has joined forces with two partners to transform printing practices for the European Championships in Germany.

At the Düsseldorf Stadium, a collaboration with Georg Otto Friedrich (GOF) saw the use of sustainable textile material, which will be reclaimed and recycled after the event. This initiative is a strong commitment to a circular economy, continuously repurposing materials to reduce waste and environmental impact.

GOF, known for its eco-friendly textile solutions, played a crucial role. Their RETeX+ product line, crafted from recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), significantly cuts down CO₂ emissions and energy usage compared to new PET. GOF's contribution ensured the use of high-quality, recyclable polyester materials, aligning with their long-standing dedication to sustainability.

In another impressive partnership, Niggemeyer teamed up with one of Europe's biggest printers for the Cologne Stadium project. This collaboration utilised innovative materials made entirely from used banners and cutting waste, forming a closed-loop recycling system. Post-event, these materials will be collected and recycled, ensuring the material doesn’t go to waste. It was a perfect match of Niggemeyer's commitment to sustainability combined with the capability of one of Europe’s biggest printers, completing this outstanding project in a record time of two weeks.

While we are of course firmly rooting for England to be lifting the trophy on Sunday, sustainability is definitely scoring high in these Football Euros!!
