A Manifesto for More Sustainable Print: Industry Unites to Drive Real Change

The global print industry took a major step forward this month with the launch of Draft 1.0 of the "Manifesto for More Sustainable Print"—a bold, collaborative initiative aimed at uniting the sector around a common vision for sustainability.

The first in-person meeting for this initiative took place on April 1 at the FuturePrint Leaders Summit in Valencia, bringing together over 40 companies from across the print value chain, including OEMs, materials suppliers, printers, and brands. The objective: to lay the foundation for a more sustainable future for print—one grounded in practical action, shared language, and industry-wide commitment.

Led by Carlos Lahoz (HP), Marcus Timson (FuturePrint), and Matthew Rogerson (ThePackScout), the manifesto aims to create a consistent definition of sustainability in print, while establishing guiding principles that all stakeholders can align around.

Creating a Common Language for Sustainable Progress

A major challenge for the print sector has been the fragmentation of sustainability definitions across the supply chain. The manifesto aims to solve this by creating a unified framework, enabling better communication and collaboration across the industry.

“This is about giving the print industry the clarity it needs to move forward together,” said Marcus Timson. “We’re creating a shared foundation that empowers everyone—from suppliers to brands—to take real, meaningful steps toward sustainability.”

The Draft 1.0 is now available for review here, and the initiative is in an open consultation phase. Feedback and contributions from across the sector will shape the final version, which will be launched in September 2025 with formal endorsement from key stakeholders.
