Leading inkjet technology group, Xaar, is empowering specialist label and flexible packaging producers with the ability to lay down varnish in innovative ways using its new Creativity print mode. This enhancement maximizes design and embellishment possibilities for users of its Versatex Printbar.

Responding to customer feedback and the increasing demand for creative effects in premium label production, the Versatex Printbar utilizes two print banks, each with six Xaar Nitrox printheads. This setup enables up to three different varnish laydown effects in a single pass using one varnish.

Previously, the Versatex Printbar’s three distinct printing modes could only be used independently, preventing concurrent jetting of multiple varnish levels in one pass. Now, with the new Creativity print mode and Xaar’s exclusive High Laydown Technology, customers can achieve laydowns from 15 to 100µm simultaneously. This allows for high-build gloss, standard or spot varnish, and matte textures, delivering the high-quality tactile effects desired for premium labels in industries such as wine and spirits, cosmetics, perfumes, and other luxury items.

Building on the Versatex Printbar’s launch last year, this new capability enables designers to explore a wider range of creative options with textured and high-build print effects, varnishes, and foils, as well as high-opacity whites and vibrant colors for labels and packaging.

With sustainability as a key focus, the Versatex Printbar offers shorter setup times and higher utilization rates compared to screen printing, making it ideal for small runs and faster job completion. The ability to jet three varnish effects in one pass also eliminates the need for multiple passes, enhancing production efficiency and reducing energy consumption and costs.
